Weekly Update

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back to our school blog. The month of September is drawing to a close and it is wonderful to see all our pupils so well settled back and working hard.  Our school is already a hive of activity. Read on to find out more.

Kindness:  Our pastoral theme for September is kindness. We are encouraging pupils to look at how they can be kind to themselves, others and their environment.

Homework: It is important that homework is completed each night and signed by a parent daily.  If you child is engaging in Lift Off Literacy, please support them by ensuring they have read the book sent home daily and discussing it with them. We do appreciate your support with pupils homework daily.

Weaving Wellbeing:  This programme which was successfully piloted last year  is being extended to all classes from 2nd to 6h class this year. It teaches skills such as identifying character strengths, building positive relationships, identifying positive emotions, building resilience and identifying empowering beliefs.  Fiona Forman the author of the programme came to speak with the staff last week and will address parents at the upcoming AGM. There is a parent pullout in the middle of each pupil book for your information. Also see http://weavingwellbeing.com for further details.

GAA games: Both our girls and boys’ teams are back playing in Cumann na mBunscol. Best of luck to all the teams and thank you to Ms. Maye, Ms. Gleeson, Ms. McCabe, Ms. Murphy and Gillian for their time with the teams.

Drumming Workshop: Thank you to our Parents Council who are part funding the 5-week drumming workshop that the pupils are currently enjoying. Thank you to Mr.  O Reilly for organising.

Choir: Choir starts back on Monday October 8th. Thank you to Ms. Ryan and Lorraine for leading this initiative.

School Self Evaluation: We have decided to look at the area of improving attitudes towards oral Irish for our school improvement plan this year. As part of this parent surveys will be sent to three classes. We will be in further contact with the parents of pupils in these classes and would appreciate your input and feedback. Thank you to Ms. O Donovan for leading in this area.

Junior Infant Information Evening: This Wednesday we will hold an information evening  for parents of Junior Infants. We will look at, how best to help your child at school, Aistear, Jolly Phonics, Ready Set Maths, Stay Safe along with social and emotional skills.

Some reminders:

  • Please ensure Bernie has your correct details and contact her if you change address, e mail or phone number.
  • Please ensure all jumpers/coats etc are labelled. Much appreciated.

Le gach dea-ghuí,
